KUCHING: A 14-year-old girl who was reported missing after she was last seen outside a secondary school in Padawan on Tuesday has been found safe.
Padawan Police Chief, Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi, said the teenager, identified as Peggy Boon Yee Sing, was located at about 11.30 am today in the Batu Lapan area.
“She was found safe after being at a friend’s house,” he said when contacted by Sarawak Tribune.
Police received a report on her disappearance at about 10.51 pm on April 14.
Peggy, a Chinese student, was last seen at around 6.30 pm in the vicinity outside SMK Tun Abdul Razak.
At the time, she was wearing a blue physical-education (PK) T-shirt and black tracksuit pants.
Following her safe recovery, police advised parents and guardians to remain vigilant and consistently monitor their children’s movements, especially those who are still underage.
They stressed that children leaving home without the knowledge of their families is a serious matter, as it exposes them to various risks including crime, negative influences, and accidents.
Parents are urged to take full responsibility by knowing their children’s friends, being aware of their whereabouts, and maintaining clear communication at all times.
“Do not take children’s safety lightly,” Irwan added.
