KUCHING: Residents in Kota Sentosa and nearby areas are encouraged to take charge of their health by participating in the upcoming KOSPEN Komuniti 2025 Health Screening Programme, which offers free cancer screenings and wellness activities.
The community event, jointly organised by the Kota Sentosa Health Clinic and the Kota Sentosa community service centre, will be held on November 8 from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm at Kota Sentosa Health Clinic here.
Assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin said the programme aims to promote early disease detection and cancer prevention, aligning with the ongoing Pink October breast cancer awareness campaign.
“This initiative is not just about health promotion – it represents a community movement towards early disease detection, cancer prevention, and overall wellness,” he said in a press conference for the upcoming event today.
He added that the event’s clinic-based setting ensures a more conducive and comfortable environment for participants, compared to previous outdoor locations such as Kota Sentosa Town Square, which faced logistical challenges.
“Since all facilities are already available at the clinic, it makes sense to hold it here. Everything needed for screening is within reach,” he explained.
Yap expressed appreciation to the doctors and healthcare workers involved, acknowledging their efforts to serve the community despite heavy workloads.
“I commend the dedication of the medical team and our community partners. It is through collaboration between healthcare providers, leaders and the community that we can truly build a healthier and stronger society,” he said.
He urged the public to participate and bring their family members along.
“Your health is your greatest wealth – and early detection can save lives. Community health is our shared responsibility,” Yap said.
The programme will feature comprehensive screenings for breast cancer, cervical cancer and colorectal cancer, which are among the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in Malaysia.
All screenings will be provided free of charge, including 100 HPV (human papilloma virus) test kits for women – each worth over RM200.
Yap said the cervical screening process is painless, safe and conducted by trained medical professionals.
Besides health checks, participants can look forward to Zumba sessions, health talks, and sharing sessions from cancer survivors.
In addition, agencies such as the Social Welfare Department and PERKESO will also be present alongside their booth exhibition to provide on-site registration for senior citizen health benefits and social protection schemes.
