KUCHING: A monthly free health screening and counselling programme was launched on this morning at the Kuching Natural Farmers’ Market, aimed at improving community access to preventive healthcare.
The initiative, to be held on the first Saturday of every month at the car parking space of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), offers free diabetes and blood pressure checks, along with health counselling.
It is jointly organised by MBKS, Diabetes Malaysia (Sarawak Branch), the Lions Club of Kuching North, Lions Club of Kuching Lavender and Kuching Natural Farmers Market.
MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the programme supports the council’s Age-Friendly City initiative.
“This morning’s programme is a meaningful step towards bringing essential health services closer to the community.
“It reflects our commitment to ensuring that residents, especially senior citizens, have access to preventive healthcare and can age actively and healthily,” he said.
Wee also commended the organisers for their continued efforts in raising public awareness on health issues.
“Their commitment plays a vital role in encouraging early detection and empowering the community to take charge of their health,” he said.
The programme, held from 7:00 am to 10:00 am, saw 68 senior citizens undergo health screenings and receive professional advice.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend upcoming sessions, which will be held on the first Saturday of each month.
