SERIKIN: A five-tonne lorry packed with frozen meat and poultry was intercepted just 800 metres from the Malaysia-Indonesia border, foiling an alleged smuggling attempt involving goods worth RM246,000 yesterday (Sept 2).
The vehicle was stopped at an illegal route near Kampung Sebobok at around 7pm while it was allegedly heading towards the Indonesian border.
The First Infantry Division said the interception was made during ‘Ops Keris Parang’ by personnel from the Third Battalion Royal Ranger Regiment (3 RRD), together with the Indonesian Army (TNI-AD) from 165 MIB.
The lorry was found carrying frozen food concealed beneath a blue canvas, and the local driver failed to produce any valid travel documents or documents verifying the legitimacy of the cargo.
“Further checks found 300 cartons of Allana Rumpsteak beef worth RM138,000 and 200 cartons of Madu Chicken Frankfurter worth RM108,000.
“The lorry was seized together with an iPhone 13 Pro Max and RM326.44 in Malaysian and Indonesian currencies.
“The total value of the seizure, including the vehicle, phone and cash, was RM380,426.44,” the division said.
Both the suspect and the seized items was handed over to the district police headquarters (IPD) for further investigation.
The division said border patrols and surveillance would continue to be intensified to prevent cross-border criminal activities.
The public with information on illegal border crossings or other cross-border criminal activities are urged to report them to security personnel operating in the area.
