KUCHING: Tamin Assemblyman, Christopher Gira Sambang, has accepted proposals for him to contest the position of PRS Youth Chief in the party elections this coming October.
Gira, who is a certified engineer, expressed his readiness to lead the PRS Youth wing, emphasising that young members are an integral part of the party who will help shape PRS into a more committed, relevant and community-oriented political force, especially among the younger generation.
“Christopher Gira’s willingness to contest for PRS Youth Chief should be viewed positively by the PRS leadership, as the party currently needs a rejuvenation of political narrative that is dynamic, showcasing capable, high-calibre, and charismatic young leadership such as that of the Tamin Assemblyman,” said adviser to the Sarawak Native Intellectuals Association (PERANTIS), Wellie Henry Majang, through a press statement today.
A graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, and a certified Professional Engineer, Gira also operates a civil and structural engineering consultancy based here.
Wellie urged the PRS leadership to not only focus on winning the upcoming state election but also consider the position of Deputy Premier, formerly Deputy Chief Minister, a post once held by the late Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing.
Gira is widely known for his approachable nature, humility and deep understanding of youth aspirations, qualities that are seen as opening greater opportunities for young people in politics.
During the 2021 Sarawak State Election, Gira earned the title of ‘The Giant Killer’ after defeating political veteran, Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun, with a majority of 3,588 votes.
“In today’s challenging political landscape, leadership must be guided by a vision that is progressive, strategic, far-sighted, and bold in bringing reform – qualities that Gira is said to possess in abundance,” Wellie said.
