KUCHING: Sarawak will soon get to have a top class medical facility with the opening of Gleneagles Hospital here, scheduled for the second quarter of 2028.
In welcoming the development, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he believed the 200-bed hospital has a network that interfaces with all the hospitals owned by IHH Healthcare.
“The hospital has the experience to provide the best treatment for any illnesses.
“With this, I truly hope that through this interfacing within IHH, they also strengthen their connections with research centres, as there are many emerging diseases that require new treatment methods driven by technology,” he said.
He said this in a press conference after officiating at the ground-breaking ceremony for Gleneagles Hospital Kuching here on Monday (Feb 24).
Earlier in his speech, he said the establishment of the hospital here marks Sarawak’s commitment to providing world-class healthcare services for both its residents and those living in the state.
“The hospital will not only provide specialised medical services but will also integrate cutting-edge medical technology and multidisciplinary team of specialists.
“A well-equipped hospital strengthens our medical workforce, while the potential for medical tourism brings added benefits to industries such as hospitality, retail and transportation,” he said.
Meanwhile, IHH Healthcare Group chief executive officer Dr Prem Kumar Nair, said by expanding its footprint in Sarawak, it not only enhances access to quality medical services but also leverages the strength of its network to deliver value-based care that is both accessible and sustainable.
“With enhanced expertise, cutting-edge technology and expanded specialties – including leading cardiac care, cancer treatment and advanced surgical procedures – patients will no longer need to travel far to receive the best possible care,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to a statement issued, the hospital, located at Jalan Lintang Selatan, will be a significant investment of approximately RM400 million.
It will come equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology such as artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted diagnostics, robotic surgery systems and advanced imaging facilities.
