KUCHING: Applications for the Malaysian Halal Certification in Sarawak have shown encouraging growth, with 259 applications received as of April 14, of which 60 have been approved.

Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) President, Datuk Misnu Taha said that out of the total, 178 applications have been processed, reflecting strong confidence among business operators in the state’s halal certification system.

According to him, the increase in applications has been driven by several factors, including the convenience of the MYeHALAL online application system, clear guidelines, and reasonable fee structures.

“This development not only benefits authorities such as the Sarawak Islamic Council and the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), but also enhances consumer confidence in the halal status of products and services,” he said during the presentation of the Malaysian Halal Certification to the manager and owner of Ling’s Signature, Mazrina Abang Hipni, at the business premises along Jalan Kulas on Saturday (April 18).

At the same time, he advised all halal certificate holders to consistently comply with the prescribed standards to ensure the integrity of the certification is maintained.

He added that efforts are also being intensified to guide more entrepreneurs particularly in the frozen food sector in obtaining halal certification.

He also reminded that any unauthorised use or display of halal labels constitutes an offence under Section 29 of the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011.

Misnu also informed about the upcoming Borneo International Halal Showcase (BIHAS), scheduled to take place from July 21 to 23 at the Waterfront Hotel and Waterfront Square here.
