KUCHING: Elderly residents at the Lions Nursing Home Kuching were encouraged to adopt simple and enjoyable daily habits to support both their physical and mental well-being during a mental health support group activity held today.
The Mental Health Support Group Activity 2.0 was organised by Lions Club Kuching Lavender’s Charter President, Connie Tan, with assistance from the club’s friend of Lions, Then HH, a certified health trainer.
The session focused on how food choices and physical movement can contribute to overall health and mental well-being, particularly among the elderly.
Tan said maintaining good health as people grow older goes beyond preventing illness, as it also involves preserving independence, maintaining a positive outlook and having sufficient energy to continue enjoying a good quality of life.
She stressed that the session was not centred on strict diets or difficult exercise routines but instead encouraged residents to incorporate manageable habits into their daily lives.
“It is about small, enjoyable habits that we can practise every day,” she said, adding that suitable activities could also be carried out by residents who use wheelchairs.
The programme sought to make healthy living more accessible to residents regardless of their mobility levels while highlighting the connection between physical and mental well-being.
Also present were Lions Region 1’s Chairman, Alexander Koh; Lions Nursing Home’s matron, Santie; as well as staff and caregivers.
