KUCHING: The Kuching Autistic Association (KAA) will organise an Autism Fundraising Food Fair to support its expansion efforts.

Organising committee chairperson Connie Yeo said the event would take place on July 14 at the Association of Churches’ Hall, from 9 am to 12 pm.

“We are constructing a new building to accommodate more autistic children, financed through the funds raised.

“Our operation cost annually has a deficit of RM1.2 million, of which RM750,000 is covered by fundraising efforts,” she told a press conference at the KAA’s Education and Vocational Training Centre on Monday.

This year’s charity food fair aims to raise at least RM350,000 from ticket sales.

“The proceeds will help fund the new building and cover our operational costs. We are reaching out to our community and corporations to help make this event a success,” she said.

The event would feature an entertainment stage with programmes throughout the fair and volunteer dance groups are encouraged to participate.

Yeo also announced an upcoming Autism Art Exhibition in November.

“The exhibition will showcase various artworks created by autistic artists from the association,” she said.

The public could contribute by donating daily necessities like food and other perishables to the association at any time at Lorong Desa Wira 15, Batu Kawa.

Also present were KAA founding president and advisor Roselind Wee, current president Dr. Catherine Chen, and vice president Stephanie Goh.
