BAU: A male hiker was rescued after suffering severe dehydration and muscle cramps near the summit of Mount Singai here today (May 2).

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a distress call at 10:42 am regarding the victim, who was unable to walk after experiencing repeated vomiting during the climb.

“The victim was hiking with his sister and two others when he began to feel weak and could not continue the descent,” a Bomba spokesperson said.

A team from the Bau fire station was deployed to the location and carried out a stretcher evacuation from near the summit down to the foothill.

The operations were assisted by personnel from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), police and other hikers.

The victim was later handed over to the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team and transported to Bau Hospital for further treatment.

The operations concluded safely with all personnel returning to the station.
