KUCHING: Deputy Secretary-General (Policy and Control) of the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN), Datuk Makhzan Mahyuddin, concluded a two-day working visit to Sarawak to assess congestion issues at Malaysia-Brunei Darussalam international entry points and to review preparations for the takeover of border control by the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).

Makhzan, together with Head of the Immigration Affairs Division, Dr Hebat Hisham Mohd Yusoff, and senior KDN officials, commenced his visit on August 26, covering key Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) complexes at Merapok, Mengkalap and Pandaruan.

The inspection was designed to gain a firsthand understanding of the daily operations and challenges faced by officers on the ground.

On the second day, the delegation continued to Kampung Pendam in Limbang before proceeding to ICQS Tedungan and later ICQS Sungai Tujoh in Miri, both of which are key gateways for cross-border movement, especially during the holiday seasons.

During the tour, Makhzan received detailed briefings on operations, manpower, and existing assets at each ICQS.

He also engaged in dialogue sessions with officers to listen to their concerns and challenges.

Among the measures discussed were the potential use of digital solutions, such as ‘QR Code’ applications, and the upgrading of facilities to expedite clearance processes.

The visit, Makhzan emphasised, reflects KDN’s commitment to strengthening efficiency at the nation’s entry points while safeguarding national security.
