MIRI: Authorities here are trying to trace the family of a 29-year-old man who has been in hospital since he was found unconscious late last year.

Hospital Miri said the man, identified as Steve Paulus Jali, was admitted on December 6 after he was discovered near an electricity pole in Bekenu.

He was not carrying any identification at the time.

Subsequent checks linked him to an identity card registered to an address at Rumah Birai, Sungai Baoh in Dalat, but efforts to contact his relatives have so far been unsuccessful.

Hospital officials said the man is believed to have close family members in different parts of the state, including a mother and younger sister in Selangau, and an older brother in Miri.

Despite multiple attempts, none of them have been reached.

The patient remains under treatment at Ward 5B, Block B, where doctors say family members are needed to assist with medical decisions and discharge arrangements.

The hospital has appealed to members of the public with any information about his family to come forward.

Anyone who may know the patient or his relatives is urged to contact the Medical Social Work Department or report directly to the ward.
