KUCHING: Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik was returned unopposed as president of the Dayak Bidayuh Nasional Association (DBNA) during its 11th Triennial General Assembly (TGA), held at the DBNA Multipurpose Hall here on Friday (May 8).
The re-election marks Ik Pahon’s eighth consecutive term since first leading the association in 2004.
Also returned unopposed were secretary-general Jubilant Austinway and treasurer-general Shirley Kho Kim Hai, while Dr Charlie Ungang retained the deputy president’s post.
The race for the three vice-president positions was among the highlights of the assembly, attracting seven candidates.
Elected as vice-presidents were Associate Professor Dr Kismet Hong Ping, Bronnie Marshall Benedict Poris, and Joseph Jindy Peter Rosen.
Meanwhile, Senorita Senong was elected assistant secretary-general, while Esther Mathew Mapi won the assistant treasurer-general post.
Richard Banter was elected cultural officer, while Aden Nagrace won the information officer position unopposed.
For the ordinary member positions, which attracted 29 candidates, those elected were Datuk Dr Adrian Susin Ambud, Simon Ilus, Datuk Lester Matthew, John Riba Marin, Dr Les Met, Dr Bernard Stephen Jussem, Thomas Daling, and Major Kencha Dewok.
Speaking at the conclusion of the assembly, Ik Pahon thanked delegates and observers for ensuring the smooth conduct of the TGA and expressed appreciation for the continued trust placed in the leadership team.
“The commitment and dedication shown by delegates throughout the assembly reflect the unity and shared aspirations of our community,” he said.
He added that DBNA remained committed to strengthening leadership, fostering unity, and advancing the interests of the Bidayuh community through experienced stewardship and the participation of emerging leaders.
Present to officiate at the TGA was Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
