KUCHING: Public awareness of preventive healthcare is on the rise as 121 individuals turned up for the Community Influenza Vaccination Programme held at the SUPP Kuching Branch Service Centre on Friday (May 1).

Organised by the SUPP Kuching Branch Youth Section, the initiative exceeded its initial target of 100 participants, with attendees arriving as early as 11:00 am despite the sweltering heat.

Organising Chairman and Youth Assistant Training Secretary, Morgan Kon, stated that the programme was designed to make influenza vaccinations more accessible and affordable, particularly for senior citizens and lower-income groups.

“We are encouraged by the strong turnout and the cooperation from the participants, which contributed significantly to the success of this programme,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, SUPP Kuching Branch Youth Chairman, Nicholas Wung, commended the Youth Section’s commitment to community well-being.

He reaffirmed that the wing would continue to organise similar community-focused programmes to benefit the public.

During the event, SUPP Kuching Branch’s Welfare-In-Charge, Kapitan Fong Yee Chee, informed the public that eligible senior citizens could utilise their Senior Citizen Health Benefit (SCHB) to cover the cost of the vaccination.

To facilitate this, two service booths were established at the venue to assist with SCHB balance enquiries, Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) consultations, and other welfare-related matters.

Fong also encouraged those needing further welfare assistance to visit the SUPP Kuching Branch Service Centre, which operates every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

The vaccination programme was supported by Alpro Clinic and co-organised by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Jalan Rock/Bampfylde, Yayasan Pengguna Negara Malaysia (Kuching), and the Sarawak Consumer Welfare Association (SCWA), alongside various community leaders from the Padungan (N9) area.

Members of the public arrive as early as 11:00 am to receive their vaccinations during the community health initiative held in Kuching.
