PADAWAN: More than 60 secretaries of the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) in Padawan attended a workshop aimed at enhancing their skills and capacity to serve their communities effectively recently.
Deputy Minister for Transport (Aviation and Roads) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said JKKK secretaries play a vital role as the backbone of village administration.
“Their duties go beyond recording meeting minutes. They ensure every decision is translated into action that benefits the community.
“In recognition of their responsibilities, the Sarawak Government has agreed to provide honorariums or special allowances to JKKK Secretaries,” he said during the closing ceremony of the 2025 JKKK Secretary Capacity Building Workshop and certificate presentation on Thursday (Oct 16).

Dr Jerip added that additional allowances are also provided to JKKK members attending official meetings to encourage active participation and accountability in village administration.
High-performing Community and Ethnic Leaders (KMKK) awards went to Rijen Meoi, Penghulu of Semaba Area; Bobyham William, village chief of Annah Sadir; and Joda Mamung, village chief of Annah Rais.
JKKK Kampung Sorot Bunuk received the Best Meeting Minutes Award, while JKKK Kampung Sagah was named JKKK with the Best Financial Report.
The 2025 JKKK Governance Initiative Appreciation Certificates were also presented to Kampung Semban, Kampung Bratan, Kampung Biya Parang, and Kampung Bangau for successfully implementing good governance throughout the year.
