SEBUYAU: The upgrading projects for Jalan Kampung Kesindu and Kampung Kesindu hall have been implemented as part of ongoing efforts to improve basic infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for residents in rural areas.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, who is also Sebuyau assemblyman, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, said the Jalan Kampung Kesindu upgrading project involved an allocation of RM200,000, while the Dewan Kampung Kesindu upgrading project was carried out with an allocation of RM435,000.

“The provision and improvement of basic facilities such as roads and community halls reflect the Sarawak Government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the well-being of the people, particularly those living in rural areas,” he said during the official opening ceremony of the projects here on Wednesday (July 1).

Julaihi noted that more comfortable and higher-quality facilities not only make daily activities easier for residents, but also support the implementation of various community programmes and strengthen local socio-economic development.

He also expressed hope that the upgraded facilities would be fully utilised by residents and properly maintained to ensure their benefits can be enjoyed in the long term.

The minister later joined residents at the ‘Ngiling Bidai’ ceremony held at Kampung Kesindu, where he emphasised the importance of maintaining unity and preserving customs and cultural heritage as part of the identity of Sarawak’s multicultural society.

He said celebrations such as ‘Ngiling Bidai’ are not merely held to mark the end of the Gawai season, but also serve to strengthen family ties, foster neighbourly spirit, and promote harmony within the community.

Prior to the official opening, the programme began with a ketupat-weaving competition involving women participants, showcasing traditional skills passed down through generations while fostering cooperation and strengthening social bonds among residents.

The ceremony was further enlivened by cultural performances and community activities, which received an encouraging response from attendees.
