KOTA SAMARAHAN: Infrastructure development in Kampung (Kpg) Meranek is being fast-tracked, with key projects now underway despite facing technical challenges.

Efforts to accelerate implementation are ongoing under the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA), involving strategic developments such as a new jetty, mosque and other public amenities.

The progress was highlighted during a monitoring visit by Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development and Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament, Datuk Rubiah Wang, on Friday to ensure projects remain on track and deliver benefits to the local community.

Among the key projects is the RM995,290 Kpg Meranek jetty, implemented by the Public Works Department (PWD) Samarahan Division.

The project, which began on January 7, 2026, is scheduled for completion on November 6, 2026.

To date, it has achieved 21.50 per cent physical progress against a target of 73.63 per cent, with intervention measures being implemented to improve performance.

The main challenge involves soil settlement along the riverbank, which is being addressed through the installation of sheet piles to stabilise the structure.

Meanwhile, the Kpg Meranek multipurpose hall has been fully completed as of January 14, 2026, at a cost of RM850,200.

Built on government land at Lot 6846, the facility spans approximately 1,846.66 square metres and includes two restrooms, a storage room and parking spaces for community use.

Construction of the RM3.599-million Kpg Meranek Mosque is also progressing, currently at 40.37 per cent completion compared to the targeted 46.50 per cent.

The mosque, which can accommodate up to 450 worshippers, is expected to be completed by November 18, 2026, following a revised schedule.

Its scope includes ablution areas, mechanical and electrical works, as well as external infrastructure such as drainage and water supply systems.

In addition, a proposed 1.5-kilometre road linking Jalan Kpg Meranek to Jalan Residen is in the pipeline, which will include a bridge, culverts and drainage facilities in line with PWD standards.

Rubiah stressed that continuous monitoring is vital to ensure all IRSDA projects are implemented smoothly and on schedule.

“The government remains committed to ensuring development projects bring tangible benefits to the people, especially in rural areas,” she said.
