‘Latest rabies samples all negative’

KUCHING: The latest samples of rabies are all negative, said Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

He affirmed this when speaking to reporters  after officiating at the 12th Convocation Ceremony of Sarawak Agriculture Institute (IPS) and Launching of Malaysia Skills Certificate (MSC) in Planting Field Programme at Rafflesia Hall, IPS here, yesterday.

“The samples are from Sri Aman, Kuching, Lundu, Tebedu, Serian, Lubuk Antu, Batu Lintang, Mongkos, Serikin and so on,

“Our strategy at the moment is to create the buffer area especially along the border area. We are monitoring the animal situation very closely,

“Veterinary Department continues to get samples in town along the border and to see the expand or the spread of the rabies, and even with the negative results we not satisfied yet, because according to World Health Organisation, its need two years for us to ensure that we gain the rabies free situation,” said Uggah.

He added, on the Immune Belt, they have decided that it will be through the Sarikei town downward to Lubuk Antu.

“So far there is no indication, there is smooth beyond Lachau which is the last evident we got. The belt will be implemented from Sarikei downward. For the record, so far we have vaccinated more than 35,000 dogs,” he added.
