KOTA PADAWAN: Utility companies have been urged to act more swiftly in resolving issues to prevent prolonged inconvenience to the community.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang expressed disappointment over what he described as the incompetence and lack of urgency shown by utility providers in addressing problems involving basic amenities such as water and electricity.

He was alluding to a low water pressure issue affecting 12 shop lots in Kota Padawan, which took two years to resolve despite complaints being lodged with Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd (formerly Kuching Water Board).

“I am very disappointed that it took so long for them to resolve the low water pressure issue here. Today, it has been fixed, and the 12 shops can now use water without difficulty.

“They replaced the old two-inch pipe with a six-inch pipe to ensure proper water flow to all the shops.

“However, this issue should not have happened at all if it had been addressed promptly, like it was today,” he said during a press conference here this afternoon (May 4).

Lo with community leaders during the press conference.

Lo pointed out that the repair work itself only took a week to complete, questioning why the affected units were left unresolved for so long.

He said the matter had been raised multiple times, with assurances from the utility company that it would be resolved within months.

“We met with them and expressed our frustration and anger so that this issue could be resolved quickly.

“It only took them one week to repair and connect the pipes to the affected shop lots. Again, it should not have come to this, but we wanted it resolved,” he added.

Lo said similar water pressure issues persist in other areas within his constituency, including Kampung Bunga Rampai and RPR Landeh.

“I will raise this issue in the upcoming DUN sitting this month,” he assured.
