KUCHING: The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak is strengthening cross-border public transport cooperation with Indonesia’s state-owned transport operator DAMRI to improve licensing coordination and operational efficiency between Sarawak and West Kalimantan.

The initiative was discussed during a courtesy visit by a DAMRI delegation from Pontianak, West Kalimantan, to LPKP Sarawak at its office in Jalan Simpang Tiga on Thursday (July 2).

The meeting was chaired by LPKP Sarawak’s Deputy Director, Razami Mohamad Jamali, while the DAMRI delegation was led by Pontianak branch general manager, Ahmad Bukhari.

The engagement served as a platform to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss matters relating to the licensing of cross-border public service vehicles, in line with the expanding transport network linking Sarawak and Kalimantan.

Among the issues discussed were compliance with licensing regulations, operating procedures for cross-border public transport services, and the exchange of views on streamlining licensing processes to ensure more systematic, safe and high-quality services.

Razami said such engagement sessions were important in enhancing mutual understanding between licensing authorities and public transport operators, particularly as cross-border transport activities continue to expand.

“LPKP Sarawak welcomes engagement sessions like this as they provide opportunities to share information and foster a clearer understanding of licensing requirements and regulatory compliance.

“Close cooperation between both parties is expected to support the development of a more efficient, safe and sustainable cross-border public transport system while strengthening the strategic relationship between Sarawak and Kalimantan,” he said in a statement today.

He added that LPKP Sarawak remains committed to strengthening collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure an efficient, competitive public transport system that meets users’ needs while supporting regional development and closer cross-border cooperation.
