KUCHING: The MA63 Technical Committee will remain the main platform for resolving technical and legal matters, with unresolved issues referred to the implementation council for further consideration.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, who chairs the MTPMA63 Technical Committee, said the committee would continue to examine technical and legal matters related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
The meeting, held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, was chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and attended by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.
Fadillah said the MTPMA63 Technical Committee had met twice this year, on March 2 and Aug 3, to examine various matters relating to MA63.
He said some matters could be addressed at the technical level, while several others still required consideration and direction from the MTPMA63.

Fadillah added that matters involving policy would undergo the appropriate consideration process at the Cabinet level.
He also acknowledged that differing views could arise on certain matters, describing this as normal in any negotiation process.
“What is important is that we continue discussions in a spirit of openness, mutual respect and seeking common ground.”
He said this approach had enabled progress on several matters previously and that the momentum should be maintained.
In conjunction with the 63rd Malaysia Day on Sept 16, Fadillah said the spirit of togetherness and consensus should continue to form the basis of efforts to strengthen relations between the Federation, Sabah and Sarawak.
He also expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister, Sarawak Premier, Sabah Chief Minister and all parties for their continued commitment to the implementation of MA63.
