SERIAN: Veteran civil servant, Mackos Sibong, will take over as Serian resident, succeeding Caroline Cleophas Joseph after her four-year tenure ends.
Hailing from Bau, Mackos has served in various postings across Sarawak, including Miri, Kapit, Padawan, Marudi and Kuching, since joining the public service in 1998.
Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Martin Ben, expressed confidence that Mackos would continue driving development and economic growth in the division.
“His experience is extensive, having served in remote and challenging areas. With that experience, I believe he can manage. With the support of the staff and the community, I believe he can do what the previous resident officer did, or even better,” he said.

He said this during the duty handover and welcoming ceremony for the new Serian Resident at the Sarawak Government Administrative Centre here today.
Mackos will officially assume his duties next Monday (June 15).
He began his career as an administrative officer in Miri from 1998 to 2003 before serving as Deputy Director at the State Planning Unit under the Chief Minister’s Department until 2006.
He later held postings in Kapit, Padawan, Marudi and Kuching before being appointed Council Secretary at the Sarawak Council for Native Customs and Traditions under the Premier’s Department in 2023.
In his speech, Mackos called for close cooperation among all stakeholders to realise the state’s development aspirations.
“No matter how good a policy is at the state level, its success depends on the understanding, appreciation and participation of the people.
“When the state progresses, the people should also enjoy that progress, not only in terms of physical development but also social development,” he said.
Also present were Serian Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem; Bukit Semuja assemblyman, John Ilus; and Tebedu assemblyman, Dr Simon Sinang Bada.
