SERIAN: The Serian District Council (SDC) is moving ahead with a series of major tourism and recreational projects under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), with all works required to be implemented or at least tendered by Dec 31, 2026.
SDC chairman Datuk Peter Minos said the council had been instructed to ensure every GKCDA-funded project reaches the implementation or tender stage before the year-end deadline.
However, he said the exact number of projects already tendered or implemented will only be known after an internal staff meeting on July 28, during which the council will conduct a comprehensive review of all GKCDA projects under its responsibility.
Among the flagship initiatives is the RM10 million intensive upgrade of Ranchan Pool, one of Serian’s most popular waterfall and recreation destinations. The project will focus on improving visitor safety, public amenities and accessibility to enhance the site’s appeal.
Other key developments include the Bung Sadong Tourism Project, which will see the creation of a resort and nature retreat aimed at promoting eco-tourism, local heritage and rural economic opportunities.
The council is also planning upgrades to Silabur Cave at Kampung Lobang Batu to improve access for cave exploration enthusiasts, while the Panchor Dayak Hot Spring will undergo further enhancements to strengthen its appeal as a wellness and leisure destination.
Meanwhile, the Pesang River will receive ecological and recreational improvements to support nature-based activities, and Kampung Riih Daso Lake is set to be transformed into a fishing and recreational hub complete with fishing platforms, improved access roads and proposed chalet facilities.
Minos said the projects form part of the Sarawak Government’s long-term vision to transform Serian into the state’s “mini New Zealand” by capitalising on its rich natural landscapes, eco-tourism assets and rural attractions.
