MUKAH: A 39-year-old man was arrested in Selangau for alleged drug possession during a noon operation conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of Mukah IPD on Thursday (Nov 27).
The suspect was detained at about 12.50 pm in front of a premises, shortly after he stopped his motorcycle.
Police conducted a check and found a transparent straw tube containing a crystal-like substance, believed to be methamphetamine syabu, weighing 0.50g.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the suspect, who works as a labourer, was brought to the police headquarters for further action. He added that the suspect’s urine test was negative for drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM100,000, or both, upon conviction.
The suspect has been remanded for three days until Dec 1 to facilitate the investigation.
