Man held over death of three-year-old girl

KUCHING: A 32-year-old man, who is a suspect in the death of a three-year-old girl in Kampung Rampangi, Santubong, has been arrested today.

Initial investigations revealed that the victim was believed to have been abused to death.

Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, said police received a report from a 52-year-old local man regarding the matter on October 8.

“The complainant informed police that on October 7 at 9:45 pm, he was told by a friend that his three-year-old daughter had passed away.

“Acting on the information, a police team from the Kuching District Police Headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division arrested the suspect at Kampung Krian, Jalan Padawan, at 11:00 am today (October 9),” he said in a statement.

Alexson added that further checks revealed that the suspect has six prior criminal records related to drug offences, and his urine test tested positive for drugs.

Alexson said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years, and not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane.

He also urged the public not to spread unverified information or make speculations as this could interfere with ongoing investigations.
