Man jailed one month for stealing RM41 worth of Milo

KUCHING: A 37-year-old man was sentenced to one month in prison by the Magistrates’ Court here today (Sept 7) for stealing two packets of Milo worth RM41 from a supermarket.

Awang Zaidi Awang Star pleaded guilty before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali to a charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine upon conviction.

He committed the offence at a prominent local supermarket chain near Wisma Wan Tabuan Jaya, at about 10 am on Sept 3.

The court ordered him to serve the one-month jail term from the date of conviction today.

Based on the facts of the case, the supermarket manager detained and inspected the accused outside the premises after discovering two 900-gram packets of Milo inside the bag he was carrying.

Police subsequently arrested the accused and seized the two packets of Milo at about 11.45 am the same day.

Investigations found that the accused had stolen the items belonging to the supermarket chain, causing the premises to suffer losses amounting to RM41.

A urine screening test conducted on the accused also returned positive for drugs.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Fauzulutfi Suriani while the accused was unrepresented.
