KUCHING: Serian recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 245 as of 2pm today (Sept 7), remaining at the very unhealthy level despite a downward trend over the past three days.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Chairman Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the haze situation continues to be influenced by wind direction and hotspot activity.
Several areas, particularly Serian and Samarahan, are also still recording very unhealthy API levels.
“The federal and Sarawak governments will continue to monitor the situation closely and advise the public to take the necessary precautions, including limiting outdoor activities and following the advice of the relevant authorities,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, SDMC confirmed that the emergency declaration in Serian has been lifted effective today, with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim following the latest assessment of the haze situation.
