KUCHING: A man was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here today after pleading guilty to consuming dangerous drugs.

Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali handed down the sentence to 43-year-old Sukardi Kaili, who admitted to an offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He committed the offence on Jan 21 at about 2.40 pm, when he tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine at the Kuching Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) office.

The offence carries a penalty of a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, upon conviction.

The court also ordered Sukardi to undergo police supervision for a period of two years under Section 2 of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 upon completion of his sentence.

According to the facts of the case, Sukardi was arrested by police and directed to undergo a drug test, which initially returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

His urine sample was subsequently sent to the Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital, where the results were confirmed.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly, while Sukardi was unrepresented.
