SIMUNJAN: An elderly man has been reported missing yesterday (July 14) after failing to return home from a fishing trip at Muara Sebuyau.
The victim, identified as Ong Kim Huat, 65, left his house at around 2.30 pm on July 12 to fish near a river at Kampung Demak Baru, Phase 1, Jalan Bako.
According to the victim’s children, they received his last known location via WhatsApp at 5.02 pm on the same day, which indicated he was at Muara Sebuyau.
Firefighters from Simunjan station were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 8.05 am yesterday.
Upon arrival, the team initiated the search and rescue (SAR) operation and set up a SAR control post at Muara Sebuyau jetty.
The search also includes personnel from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
At the time of writing, the operation is still ongoing.
