KUCHING: Registration for the Mayor’s Walk 2026 opened today, with free participation and complimentary event T-shirts on a first-come, first-served basis.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the annual community walk will be held on Aug 16, starting at 6am, with registration available through the iPeople mobile application.
“Every registered participant will receive a free Mayor’s Walk T-shirt while stocks last. We have prepared 10,000 T-shirts, so I encourage everyone to register early,” he said during a press conference at MBKS headquarters today.
The Mayor’s Walk, one of MBKS’ signature annual programmes, is expected to attract thousands of participants from all walks of life, including families, senior citizens, students and community groups.
Wee said the event is not a competition but an opportunity for residents to spend quality time with loved ones, make new friends and embrace a healthier lifestyle.
“Walking together strengthens the fabric of our neighbourhoods. It allows us to interact, build friendships and reminds us that staying active is one of the simplest ways to maintain our physical and mental well-being,” he said.
Participants may collect their T-shirts on Aug 14 from 9am to 4pm and Aug 15 from 9am to 1pm by presenting their registration barcode from the iPeople app for verification.
Wee urged the public to register early and invite their family members, neighbours and colleagues to make this year’s edition the biggest Mayor’s Walk to date.
He also thanked Ibraco Berhad as the main sponsor, together with Chagee, Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and Pepsi, for supporting the event.
In addition, he expressed appreciation to the City Joggers Club (CJC), which has worked alongside MBKS since the inaugural Mayor’s Walk by providing volunteer marshals to ensure participants’ safety and the smooth running of the event.
