SIMUNJAN: The ‘Santai Bersama Pemimpin’ programme is set to become an annual event, aimed at strengthening connections between leaders and the local community while promoting a healthier and more inclusive lifestyle.

Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee said the initiative offers an excellent platform for fostering close relationships between leaders and the people they serve.

“This programme provides a relaxed and friendly environment where citizens can interact with their leaders.

“It also promotes physical well-being and nurtures a balanced and harmonious community spirit,” she said during the event at Kampung Kepayang on Sunday (Jan 5).

Rodiyah said the enthusiastic participation of 150 attendees was proof of the community’s strong support for such initiatives.

She added that the programme could inspire similar efforts to build healthier, more vibrant communities.

During the event, Rodiyah also mentioned the potential of the Sungai Rian picnic site for tourism development.

Once a thriving recreational area upgraded with funds from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC), it now suffers from neglect, with its basic facilities damaged and unusable.

She stressed that the site’s restoration could create opportunities for local economic growth and provide a picturesque destination for visitors.

“This site has great potential for tourism but requires immediate attention to restore and maintain its facilities.

“I hope the involvement of elected representatives and officials from the Tourism, Creative Industries, and Performing Arts Ministry (MTCP) will pave the way for revitalizing Sungai Rian,” she added.

Also present were MTCP permanent secretary Datuk Sherrina Hussaini; Datuk Seri Mohd Naroden Majais, the special representative to the Premier; Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris; and Gedong Women’s chief Hasanah Majais.
