MIRI: Police stepped up crime prevention efforts on the district on Thursday night, with an integrated enforcement operation leading to traffic offences being detected, an unlicensed entertainment outlet being shut down, and increased police presence in crime-prone areas.
The operation involved 28 officers, comprising five senior officers and 23 personnel, who were deployed for roadblocks, snap checks, mobile patrols and inspections of entertainment premises throughout the district.
Prior to the operation, ASP Lee Yen Fang, Head of the District Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division, briefed all participating officers to coordinate the night’s deployment.
Roadblocks established at strategic locations uncovered a range of traffic violations, including driving without a valid licence, illegal vehicle modifications, missing side mirrors, modified exhaust systems, non-compliant registration plates and expired road tax. A total of seven summonses were issued.
Mobile patrols and snap checks were also conducted in residential neighbourhoods, villages and along major roads under the police’s omnipresence strategy to deter crime and reassure the public through a visible law enforcement presence.
Officers also inspected several entertainment outlets, with one premises facing enforcement action after it was found operating without a valid licence under the Entertainment Ordinance. An arrest was made and items were seized during the inspection.
