MIRI: Three new patrol vessels built by a Sarawak company for the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS) have been completed ahead of schedule.
Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) said the 40-metre vessels are the latest additions to a fleet of nine patrol vessels built under the state programme since 2022.
The department said the project reflects the capability of Sarawak companies and local workforce in producing high-quality maritime assets that meet international standards.
“The three new vessels were built by Sarawakians for Sarawak, reflecting the capability and expertise of our local workforce and companies in producing high-quality maritime assets that meet international standards,” it said in a Facebook post.
PWD director Datuk Dr Cassidy Morris visited the shipyard on Tuesday to inspect the project.
He commended the contractor for completing the project ahead of schedule.
Cassidy also expressed pride in the ability of local companies to build vessels that meet the required quality and technical specifications.
For record, the department is the implementing agency responsible for overseeing the construction and delivery of the vessels.
They previously handed over three patrol vessels to UKPS on Nov 18, 2022, followed by another three on July 17, 2023.
Each vessel is designed to operate continuously for up to one week.
