LIMBANG: Sarawak records an estimated 200,000 tourist arrivals from neighbouring Brunei every month, with the main entry points being in Limbang, Miri and Lawas.

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the figure was based on data from the Immigration Department at the state’s key border checkpoints.

He said Miri, Limbang and Lawas remain the top destinations for Bruneian visitors, who frequently cross over to shop and seek leisure activities, significantly contributing to Sarawak’s domestic economy.

“Bruneians are the biggest group entering Sarawak each month. When I say Bruneians, they can’t avoid Miri, Limbang, or Lawas, because those are the main gateways.

“Most of them come here to shop, for entertainment, and other activities.

“As far as I know, no less than 200,000 Bruneians come in each month, and I believe from June to December, that number will exceed 200,000,” he said.

He told reporters this after officiating the BELIA GoBiz@Limbang 2025 programme at Dewan Suarah here today.

To attract more foreign visitors, he said the ministry is intensifying efforts to promote tourism programmes across Sarawak, particularly in the northern region.

Abdul Karim noted that specific flagship events will also be introduced in Limbang to revitalise the local tourism scene.

Limbang, through its Main District Celebration Committee, has already carried out 14 key events this year in a concerted effort to draw more visitors, especially from Brunei.
