BELAGA: A total of RM447,000 under the second phase of the Rural Minor Project (MRP) grant has been allocated to 37 associations in the Belaga constituency to support community development, education and youth programmes.

Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Liwan Lagang, said the recipients included all parent-teacher associations (PTAs) of primary and secondary schools in the constituency, reflecting the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to strengthening rural communities through financial assistance.

He said RM505,000 had already been disbursed under the first phase directly into the recipients’ bank accounts.

“Assistance for longhouse development and security committees (JKKKs) will be channelled under the third phase once the approval process and fund disbursement are completed.

“All applications have been processed and entered into the system,” he said during the symbolic cheque presentation ceremony at the Belaga District Office Meeting Room on Tuesday (July 14).

Liwan, who is also Belaga assemblyman, conveyed a message from Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, urging recipients to manage and utilise the grants prudently, transparently and with integrity for the benefit of the people and community development.

On the Belaga District Mosque, he said its official opening would take place after the upgrading works on the imam’s residence within the mosque compound are fully completed to ensure all facilities are ready before the inauguration.
