KUCHING: A total of 32 government officials, including directors and heads of agencies, have been appointed to the Sarawak Social Development Council (MPS) for the 2024-2026 term.
Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the collaboration among the various agencies involved would strengthen efforts to address social issues in Sarawak more comprehensively.
“This time, we are pleased to welcome representatives from three new units – the Sarawak Enforcement and Security Unit (UKPS), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP) Malaysia – as additional council members for the October 2024 to October 2026 term,” she told a press conference after chairing the 2024 MPS Members’ Meeting at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today (Dec 13).
She added that one of the topics discussed during the meeting was the achievement report for the implementation of the 2024 MPS Social Intervention Program and the Sarawak Social Wellbeing Index (SSWI) 2023 study.
“This process is essential for planning programmes for 2025 based on actual needs,” she said.
Since its establishment in 1984, MPS has played a vital role in analysing findings and formulating recommendations for research related to social intervention policies.
MPS members’ meetings are held regularly to ensure that social issues presented can be addressed systematically and thoroughly, using a more strategic approach.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, Permanent Secretary Datuk Felicia Tan Ya Hua, Director of the Sarawak Welfare Department Semawi Mohamad, and MPS Executive Secretary Riziandy Nawawi.
