SARATOK: The construction of the Nanga Atoi Health Clinic is expected to improve access to healthcare services for rural residents, particularly in the Krian state constituency (DUN).

Krian assemblyman Friday Belik said the facility is an important addition in efforts to ensure that rural communities receive more accessible, comfortable and quality healthcare services.

“Currently, there are three health clinics under the Krian DUN, namely in Nanga Budu, Nanga Atoi and Roban.

“These facilities enable the local community to receive treatment more quickly while improving the effectiveness of healthcare service delivery in this area.”

Friday made these remarks during the handover ceremony of the completed Nanga Atoi Health Clinic project on Wednesday (April 15).

According to him, the construction of the clinic, which cost RM5.6 million, is an initiative by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) and was implemented by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) to upgrade existing healthcare facilities in the area.

The project commenced with site possession on Aug 2, 2024 and took 14 months to complete, reaching full completion on Nov 7, 2025.

Friday also expressed his appreciation to the MOH for approving the project, describing it as one that will help create a better healthcare ecosystem for the community around Nanga Atoi.

“The development and upgrading of these facilities are highly meaningful as they not only provide comfort to the community but also improve working conditions for healthcare personnel serving here.”

At the same time, he expressed hope that the MOH would consider increasing the number of doctors and healthcare staff to further strengthen the quality of healthcare services in the area.

The Nanga Atoi Health Clinic, located about an hour’s journey from Betong town, was built with several new facilities, including a Type 7 (Tulip) Health Clinic block, a Type F quarters block, a pump and electrical house, and a waste house.

In addition, the project involved mechanical and electrical works as well as external works such as earthworks, retaining wall construction, drainage systems, concrete flooring, premix roads, parking areas and the installation of chain-link fencing.
