SIBU: An air conditioning unit caught fire at a house in Jalan Gambir here yesterday (Sept 19), but the blaze was put out by the occupants before firefighters arrived.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received a distress call at 12.08 pm regarding the fire at No. 4A, Jalan Gambir.
Firefighters from Sungai Merah station were dispatched to the scene, about 4km away, arriving at 12.12 pm.
The operation commander reported that the fire involved one air conditioning unit, which was totally burned. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the house structure.
“The fire had already been extinguished by the occupants before the arrival of the firefighting team.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the operation commander carried out monitoring and inspection to ensure there were no remaining sources of fire or embers that could potentially cause a re-ignition,” it said.
The situation was brought under control at 12.25 pm.
After the inspection was completed and the situation confirmed safe, the team returned to the station at 12.36 pm.
No casualties were reported.
