PADAWAN: A night out turned into a legal headache for a local man after he was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol during an operation codenamed “Ops Mabuk”.
Three individuals were initially detained and screened using an SD2+ alcohol testing device, with one testing positive and two negative.
Padawan police said the driver was taken to Batu Kawa police station for further testing with an EBA II breathalyser.
The driver was arrested after the test recorded an alcohol reading above the prescribed limit.
The case is being investigated under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police said the operation was conducted by the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division from 11.30 pm on Aug 28 to 4.30 am on Aug 29 along Jalan Datuk Amar Kalong Ningkan.
Throughout the operation, the team inspected 69 vehicles, comprising 19 motorcycles, 29 cars, 10 four-wheel-drive vehicles, five lorries and six MPVs, as well as 70 individuals — 58 men and 12 women.
A total of 37 traffic summonses were issued for various offences, including modified exhaust systems, faulty lights, failure to display licence plates, expired road tax, driving without a licence and failure to comply with traffic directions.
Police said the operation was aimed at preventing motorists and passengers from travelling under the influence of alcohol while ensuring compliance with traffic laws.
