KUCHING: BEM Satria Jaya BDC has received a RM150,000 Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) grant to support upgrading works at its church building.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the allocation reflected the Sarawak government’s continued commitment to supporting the development and upkeep of places of worship across the State, regardless of religious background.
“Places of worship are not only places for religious activities. They are also important community spaces where people come together, support one another and strengthen community bonds.
“This RM150,000 UNIFOR allocation will help BEM Satria Jaya BDC carry out the necessary upgrading works and provide a more conducive and suitable environment for its congregation and community activities,” he said.
He said this in a statement today (Aug 30) after handing over the grant cheque to Pastor Pelakung, representing BEM Satria Jaya BDC, during a brief ceremony.
He added that the Sarawak government’s approach to inclusivity and unity remains an important strength of Sarawak.
“In Sarawak, we respect and recognise the role played by every faith community. Our policy of inclusivity ensures that no community is left behind, and assistance to places of worship is part of our commitment towards building a stronger and more united Sarawak,” he said.
He also expressed his appreciation to UNIFOR and the Sarawak government for making the allocation possible, as well as to the leadership and congregation of BEM Satria Jaya BDC for their continued contributions to the local community.
The RM150,000 grant is expected to assist BEM Satria Jaya BDC in implementing the planned upgrading works and further improve its facilities for the benefit of its congregation and the wider community.
