SIBU: Only political parties with Sarawakian roots, like Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), possess the “DNA” to prioritise the state’s interests and safeguard the welfare of Sarawakians, said Councillor Kelvin Lau.

The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Central Chairman said that it’s natural for Sarawakians to prefer parties deeply rooted in Sarawak to represent them in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly, Parliament and Senate.

“You’d naturally want someone who shares your thoughts and values to advocate for you,” Lau said in a statement today (Jan 5).

“You’re more likely to trust someone like that to fight for your best interests.”

Lau, also the SUPP Bawang Assan branch chairman, highlighted the growing support for GPS, a coalition of Sarawakian parties.

“GPS is gaining widespread acceptance because it delivers,” he said.

“As a locally-based coalition, it’s a trusted guardian of Sarawak’s autonomy and a staunch advocate for the rights enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).”

Personally, Lau expressed full confidence in GPS to protect Sarawak’s interests from external influences, allowing Sarawakians to determine their own path within Malaysia.

He added that GPS plays a crucial role in maintaining harmony within Sarawak’s diverse society, fostering unity and understanding among different communities.

“The people must leverage this unity to give a strong voice to GPS in national discussions,” Lau urged.

“This unity will ensure Sarawak’s position is strongly represented at the national level, particularly on issues impacting the state’s future.”

“Through this unity and local leadership, Sarawak will continue to prosper and contribute meaningfully to Malaysia’s development,” he added.
