KUCHING: A dedicated palliative care centre is being planned for Petra Jaya to provide holistic support for patients with life-threatening or chronic illnesses.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi were briefed on the initiative during a courtesy call at their Kasuma Resort official residence yesterday (Aug 25).

Led by Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, the delegation also updated the Governor on details concerning the centre’s proposed location and available facilities, following earlier consultations with the relevant agencies.

The initiative followed an earlier suggestion from Toh Puan on the need for a specialised facility to meet the growing demand for palliative care in Sarawak.

The centre is expected to serve patients of all ages, particularly those facing challenges in receiving intensive care at home.

Wan Junaidi and wife expressed hope that the centre would deliver comprehensive treatment and support, ensuring dignity and quality of life for patients and their families.
