KOTA SAMARAHAN: Police are tracking down a man suspected of molesting a 22-year-old shop assistant at a mini mart in Taman Samarindah in the early hours of Friday (April 17).

Acting Kota Samarahan Police Chief, DSP Barry William, said the suspect, identified only as ‘Ningkan’, approached the victim at the counter and invited her to the toilet, which she refused.

“He then allegedly hugged her from behind and attempted to touch her private parts, prompting the victim to scream for help. The victim resisted and pushed the suspect away,” he said.

Barry said the suspect subsequently left the premises after paying for six cans of alcoholic beverages.

Investigations revealed that the victim was alone at the shop during the incident and did not sustain any physical injuries.

However, she was left traumatised and concerned for her safety.

Barry said the suspect is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.

No eyewitnesses were present, but the incident was captured on the shop’s closed-circuit television (CCTV).

The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code.
