MIRI: Police have launched an investigation after images appearing to show a dog being dragged behind a lorry in the Piasau Industrial area went viral on social media.
The Miri district police received a report on September 16, a day after the images were circulated on the Miri Edition Facebook page.
Police said the case was being investigated under Section 73(1)(g) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999.
Investigators are now working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, including what happened to the animal and the circumstances leading to the alleged act.
Police said the matter was being treated seriously and that further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation and the relevant provisions of the law.
Members of the public have been urged not to speculate or circulate unverified information that could interfere with the investigation.
