Miri District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said a 17-year-old rider was arrested for riding dangerously and performing a wheelie stunt on the road.

The teenager was arrested under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Another 17-year-old rider was arrested under Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for displaying a fake registration number,” he said in his statement.

Police seized a total of 15 motorcycles during the operations and will take further action under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“During the operations, a total of 75 men and 11 women, along with 72 motorcycles, were inspected.

“From the inspection, 45 summonses were issued by traffic police while JPJ issued 33 notices for various offences.

“Among the offences detected were expired licences, no registration number, fancy plate numbers, no driving licence, modified exhaust systems and absence of side mirrors,” he added.

Police advised road users to always drive or ride prudently and cautiously, avoid involvement in illegal street racing activities, refrain from modifying their vehicles, and not gather by the roadside in a manner that causes congestion, obstructs traffic flow or creates excessive noise that may disturb public peace.

Negligence by drivers and riders can pose dangers to themselves as well as to other road users.
