BAU: Police here confiscated eight motorcycles and issued 49 summonses for various offences during the ‘Op Motosikal’ carried out yesterday evening (Aug 15).
Bau District police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer said the operation, conducted by the district’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) from 6 pm yesterday until 12.30 am, covered Jalan Bau Singai in the Redeems area, Jalan Bau/Batu Kawa, and Bau Market.
“A total of 58 motorcycles and 65 individuals were inspected. Eight motorcycles were seized along Jalan Bau Singai and around Bau Market under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement today.
He added that among the 49 summonses issued, the highest number of offences were for vehicle structure modification (16), followed by no side mirrors (eight), no registration number (six), not wearing a helmet (six), no driving licence (five), failure to display the ‘P’ plate (three), expired road tax (three) and driving against traffic flow (two).
Daram therefore reminded all road users, especially motorcyclists, to comply with traffic laws and always prioritise safety.
“The police also urge parents to monitor their children to ensure they are not involved in illegal motorcycling activities,” he said, while adding that operations will continue from time to time.
The public is also urged to provide information on illegal street racing activities by contacting the Bau District Police Headquarters at 082-763311.
