LONG LAMA: The preliminary report on the helicopter crash at Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, is expected to be released within 30 days of the accident in line with international aviation investigation requirements.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the report would be prepared by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) in accordance with Annex 13 of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
He said the AAIB investigation team was still conducting detailed work at the crash site, including examining the wreckage and collecting and preserving relevant evidence.
“The cause and contributing factors of the accident have yet to be determined, and the AAIB will not draw any conclusions until all the evidence has been examined,” he said.
Hasbi said this when met by reporters after officiating at the 2026 Class B2 Driving Licence Assistance Programme organised by the Telang Usan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) here today (Sept 19).
Hasbi said investigators were also examining operational and maintenance records, crew information, weather conditions and other relevant evidence as part of the investigation.
He said the findings would subsequently be presented to the Cabinet.
He added that the investigation had also received technical cooperation from the aircraft manufacturer in Germany and the engine manufacturer in the United States.
According to Hasbi, the technical assistance would enable investigators to obtain additional information on the aircraft and engine to support the ongoing investigation.
The helicopter crash at Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, claimed five lives, including pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham and four MOH personnel: Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, assistant medical officer Alexson Adit Henry, and nurses Jessie Paya Jok and Debra Moset.
