KUCHING: Preparations are on track for the inaugural Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Convention 2026, with rehearsals running smoothly ahead of the one-day event expected to draw 5,000 participants from its four component parties.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the organising chairman, inspected the rehearsal at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today (April 18).
Booths by various ministries and government agencies have been set up at the venue, while GPS flags line the route leading to BCCK, adding to the build-up of the convention.
The programme will feature speeches by Uggah and leaders of the component parties, namely Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing of Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to deliver the keynote address and officiate the convention in the morning, before proceedings adjourn in the evening.
The convention will also include sharing sessions on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, as well as on the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) achievements by Datuk Amar Jaul Samion.
The event will conclude with a dinner.
