JEPAK: The public needs to be aware of the dangers of radicalism, extremism, and terrorism to safeguard national security and preserve societal harmony, says Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee.

He stressed the need for proactive measures to shield Malaysia’s multicultural fabric from the growing threats of radical ideologies.

“Radical ideologies often exploit individuals with limited knowledge, luring them into harmful activities that jeopardise the nation’s wellbeing.

“Thus, this programme plays a pivotal role in educating the public and offering support to those affected, guiding them back to the right path,” he said during the launch of The Wake Up Project, an anti-terrorism initiative held here on Wednesday (Dec 18).

He further highlighted that the initiative goes beyond ensuring security by focusing on prevention.

It seeks to engage communities through religious education and foster collaboration between government agencies, private organisations, and local communities, he said.

Iskandar also called for a comprehensive strategy to combat terrorism, highlighting the importance of education, the promotion of human values, and addressing the social and economic factors that contribute to radicalisation.

Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dakwah Islamiah (Pekida) Bintulu branch Information Unit spearheaded the programme with strong backing from stakeholders such as the Jepak Constituency Service Centre, government agencies, and private sector organisations.

Through presentations and interactive activities, the initiative seeks to enhance awareness, particularly within the Muslim community, about the threats posed by radicalism and extremism.
