ROBAN: Quick action by residents saves a longhouse from being destroyed in a fire at Kampung Pelasuk here last Friday.
Sarikei fire chief Mahmudin Narudin said they received a distress call around 10.40pm on the incident and his men were quickly deployed to the scene.
Firemen from Saratok were also deployed to assist in the operation.
Prior to the firemen’s arrival, longhouse residents managed to control the fire using two fire extinguishers. The firemen took over and successfully put out the fire which partially damaged one room (bilek) in the 19-door double storey longhouse.
There were no casualties in the incident and the cause of the fire has not been ascertained.
